5 Ways to Combat Mask-ne
With the pandemic, one would have thought that we’d have more time to dedicate to ensuring our skin routine is perfect and that our skin flourishes like never before. For some that may have been the case, but the mask we’re all wearing, has brought on its own issues. Wait you are choosing to be a good citizen and still wear your mask right? Okay cool just checking! So with the mask, we have the trouble breathing sometimes, the inability to see if a random stranger is smiling at you or not, and the worst issue of all – the freaking ACNE. Yep the terrible breakouts that most of us suffered through once we hit puberty has made its way back to us.
Here’s five ways we’re tackling mask-ne:
1. Wash your face twice a day
There’s no way around sis. We don’t care how busy you are, how tired you are, what time your bae calls you – Wash. Your. Face. Twice. A. Day. Usually the rule is to wash in the morning and then wash again at night. Also if you’re sweating after a workout, try to sneak in another wash then. If you’re not immediately able to wash your face after a workout, at least try to take a face wipe to your face until you’re able to wash. It’s super important though to wash twice a day. Your skin will thank you.
2. Double cleanse
This is a new step that we are loving! Many of us wear makeup during the day and once bedtime hits, we use a makeup wipe and think we’re all good. Wrong girlfriend. Actually the makeup wipe isn’t cleaning your face. Its really just moving the makeup around on your face. So it’s crucial to the state of your skin that you do what’s called a “double cleanse”. A double cleanse is where you wash with an oil cleanser and then follow with another wash using your regular face cleanser. The oil cleanser breaks down the makeup, sunscreen, and natural face oil, making it easier for the regular face wash to do its job. Give it a try!
3. Moisturize your face
If you’ve dealt with acne before then you know that acne can sometimes form when our skin is dry and our oil glands are trying to produce more oil to moisturize. The result are whiteheads that form. The key to ensure that this doesn’t have to happen is to moisturize your face. Its imperative though, to know tour skin type. This will determine what type of moisturizer you need to use. No matter the type of moisturizer you need, make sure you do it. Your face needs moisture!
4. Use acne stickers
Also known as “pimple patches,” this new invention is genius! To use whenever you have a pimple that’s on the rise, these acne stickers work to remove the fluid from your pimple. Whenever we get pimples, the first instinct is to pop it and I’m sure you’ve heard by now that that does more harm than good. So we’ve learned that not only do this pimple patches help to remove excess fluid, but as you wear them, they keep you from picking at the pimple, decreasing the chances of causing more irritation. Did we mention that they come in different sizes, blend well with the skin, and are totally wearable underneath your mask? Sounds like a win!
5. Take care of your mask
Whether you’re wearing a disposable mask or a cloth one, take the necessary steps to care for your mask. Its recommended that washing your cloth mask in a gentle detergent can help reduce the breakouts cause by trapped bacteria in a mask. If you’re using a disposable mask, make sure that you’re getting a new one every time you go out. A hassle? Kind of. But better safe than sorry. You can do it girl!
