fashion…but Make It Modest?
We can’t be the only ones thinking that in this day and age it seems almost impossible to dress modestly. Literally everything is boobs out, slits to the ceiling, super tight and restricting, etc. Like Lord have mercy! But let us be the first to tell you that it is totally possible to be completely covered and still be the best dressed babe in the room. Can you say slay? Yes ma’am!
Dressing modestly though isn’t all about clothes. I know the church may have made it seem that way but nah sis, it’s way more than that. Modesty truly starts in the mind. Crazy I know. But think about it. When it comes down to dressing in a seductive way, that usually stems from the mentality that dressing in a seductive manner will make you look good or dressing in s seductive manner will gain the attention of all the guys. For example, how many of us wear a specific type of jeans when we go out because they “make our butt look good”? And once we wear those jeans, we stand on the end in all the group pics so make sure our booty is SEEN. Honey hush, we’ve all done it at some point, just admit it.
With that example, you can see that the way one chooses to dress can easily stem from their intentions. So for us, when making the change to dress modestly, we have to check our intentions and ensure that they align with God’s desire for us. Are we trying to please man or are we trying to please God? The goal should always be to please God but listen shoutout to the women that look good for themselves!
“And you don’t do it for the men, men never notice. You just do it for yourself, you’re the freaking coldest” – Drake (Fancy)
Here’s three ways to embrace modesty while still being totally fashionable:
1. Accentuate but not expose
There is a difference sis. Accentuate simply can mean wearing clothing that highlights your figure. With the right intentions, you’re embracing your body and feeling good about yourself. Exposing certain parts of your body though can be a bit problematic. Listen, we are not saying put a trash bag over your body and walk around looking a mess. We are still women at the end of the day and should not have to hide our bodies in dresses down to the floor, just to show that we are modest.
2. Have fun with the trends
Play around with the latest trends! You and your girls go shopping and play dress up. The point is to figure out what works for you and what doesn’t. For example, how many of you are running away from the leather pant trend because you think leather is too tight and isn’t modest? Sis, you never know until you try it. Have some fun!
3. Seek guidance from the Holy Spirit
Ask the Holy Spirit what I should wear? First off, Jesus sent the Holy Spirit to be our Helper (John 14:26 ESV). Yes ask the Holy Spirit! There is nothing worse than going out and feeling completely uncomfortable because your spirit isn’t at rest. Seek the Holy Spirit and walk with confidence wherever you go!
